Melanie Huntley, PhD

Genentech

San Francisco, CA

Melanie is a Principal Data Scientist at Genentech and a staunch patient advocate. Her career at Genentech spans more than a decade, ranging from early-stage research & target discovery in neuroscience, immunology, and oncology, to the real-world health outcomes data derived from EHRs linked with genomic data.

Prior to Genentech, Melanie studied population genetics, genome biology, and evolution, receiving her Ph.D. in Computational Biology at McMaster University in Canada, followed by postdoctoral research at Cornell University.

Melanie and her daughter Teagan reside in San Francisco, CA. During her free time, she enjoys singing and performing live music with friends, dabbling in various paint media, and spending time in nature. A favorite activity is seeing the joy on my daughter’s face while on trail rides during her horse-riding therapy.

When asked about her involvement as an LGS Foundation board member Melanie responded,

“Through my daughter’s experience with LGS, I see the unmet medical & support needs that persist, and the urgency for solutions NOW.

I am passionate about how the research, support, and empowerment of the LGS community can lead to meaningful improvements in the lives of individuals with LGS and their families.”
