NightWatch+ Seizure Monitoring Device

NightWatch+ is a nighttime seizure detection device. Seizures during sleep can be especially challenging to monitor for caregivers. This device focuses on detecting the seizure types most associated with serious harm and Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) risk. Types of seizures detected include: tonic-clonic seizures, tonic seizures (clustered or prolonged), and myoclonic seizures or seizure clusters. NightWatch+ detected 85% of all clinically urgent seizures (defined as major motor seizures lasting over 30 seconds).

How it Works

The NightWatch+ system consists of a wearable sensor, worn as an upper arm bracelet, and a bedside base station. The sensor tracks changes in heart rate increases or tachycardia and the rhythmic body movements that occur with tonic-clonic seizures. A spike in heart rate combined with rhythmic body movements results in a much more reliable seizure detection signal than relying on either alone. This two-prong detection approach can result in fewer false alarms while maintaining high sensitivity. When a seizure is detected, the wearable sensor wirelessly transmits an alert to a base station, which in turn triggers an alarm for caregivers.

Key Benefits

Seizure Types: It is highly sensitive for tonic-clonic seizures (up to 96-100%). It also detects prolonged tonic seizures (longer than 30 seconds).

Armband Sensor: The upper arm/bicep placement provides more reliable readings

Connectivity: Receives wireless signals from the armband sensor up to 50 feet away. If a potential seizure is detected, the base station sounds an audio and visual alert for the caregiver.

No Smartphone Required: The system is “plug and play” and does not require a mobile phone or a subscription plan.

Data Portal: Caregivers can choose to upload seizure tracking data for neurologist review.

Regulatory Status and Availability

The NightWatch+ device is authorized for use in adults and children 4 and older. NightWatch+ has obtained FDA clearances and CE marking for their seizure detection technology. The device is available in the US, Australia, Israel, Turkey, the UK, and several European countries. In the US, a valid medical prescription is required to ship the device. No prescription is required for NightWatch+ orders placed outside of the US.
